Work alot & dont have enough time with the children or work abit & get benefits?

  • child life insurance
  • life experience credits
  • child care benefits
  • sick children charity
hi im not here to offend anyone by asking my question so please no rude comments.

I'am currently working 25 hours a week contracted & my husband 16 hours a week contracted (he lost his previous job 4months ago), we have two children aged 4 & 6 + one on the way. we do get both working tax & child tax credits + child benefit.

What I was wondering is if I dropped down to 12 hours a week & he dropped down to 15 hours a week how much better off would we roughly be as we'd no longer get working tax credits & our income from work would be less but we might qualify for other things e.g. housing benefit, council tax support, free school meals, free prescriptions, healthy start vouchers, still get child tax credits.

Has anyone made this decision & did you find it made life easier as there would be more time with the children & did it actually make life easier because at the moment we are literally living hand to mouth & not sure how we'd afford Christmas at this rate.

Thank you to all that can help. louise
