Getting life insurance after a suicide attempt?

  • low cost term life insurance

  • registered agent service
So, I'm a 24 year old woman in perfect health (unless you'll count 20lb spare as a condition). However, I attempted suicide a couple of times between Dec '10 and Jun '11 as the result of an abusive relationship. I did not have depression and am not taking any medication for it, though I was on anti-depressants just before the last suicide attempt. I have suffered no lasting damage as a result of the suicide attempts, and have since been cleared by several doctors and the local mental health team as well as a private therapist.

I'm now trying to find life insurance cover, but have been warned some companies will not take me on, other will do so but try and look for ways to blame my previous attempts when I do die, others will insure me but only after a certain time has elapsed, and others will cover me for HUGE premiums.

So I guess I don't really have that many clear questions, more a case of "how would you approach it?" Or "do you have any feedback you would give someone in my position?" Sort of territory.

Thanks
  • Additional Details
  • I'm not in any way suicidal or depressed; the desire to hurt myself disappeared right around the time I left the aforementioned abusive partner nearly 2 years ago. Although I appreciate the support in the responses, I really don't need it :-) Life is good now.

And yes, I do have a son, that's why I'm seeking life insurance.
