What do most lawyers major in and is there a pre law major?

  • elementary school teacher degree
  • school psychology degree
  • work experience degree
  • social work degree online
  • viral advertising examples
Very few colleges and universities actually have a pre-law major. Many law students majored in political science for their undergraduate degree, but it really does not matter what your degree is in. If you know what area of law you are most interested it, then you should tailor your undergraduate education to match. For example, if interested in patent law, an engineering degree may be most useful. For environmental law, a bachelors in biology may be the way to go. Other examples are business or accounting for corporate law, political science, public policy or forensics for criminal law, social work or psychology for family law. Again these are merely examples, and you can major in almost any subject. You may also want to consider a major you can fall back on in case law school does not work out, or you have troulble finding work after you graduate (the market is very saturated right now with more students in law school then there are practicing attorneys).
