How do I find out what companies are in my Investment portfolio, top holdings?

  • best investment company
  • mutual funds company
  • mutual fund company
  • financial portfolio management
  • new smartphones coming out
I'm brand new to investing. It's a little scary but exciting too. I have about $100 000 to play with. One of the things I've invested in is a portfolio.. it's made up of about 45% Canadian Equities and 55% Foreign Equities (including a big chunk in U.S. Equities).

Is that a good idea right now? Or a bad idea? I like the portfolio because it is made up of various things like bank mutual funds, technology and other businesses, and a teeny bit in Global Real Estate and New Emerging Markets.

But the price started out at 10.00 this year and is up to 15.80 now. I just got on now. Is it a mistake? I can reverse it..I have 2 days to do so and then I'll lose nothing. Reason I'm worried is because a friend told me now is the worst time to invest because a major market correction is coming soon and I could lose 1/2 my money :(

Any one know? If you can help, thanks so much.

  • Oops my main question was: When I look at my portfolio's funds, there are a list of companies that are the "top holdings" does this mean companies that are in the fund investing like me and how many shares they have? Or does it mean that they are the companies that fund is investing in?
