Cashing and depositing large life insurance checks?

I'm looking for the quickest and easiest way to access my funds. I have 2 checks coming, one for $20,000 and one for $25,000 from my Dad's policy. I do not have a bank account. Can I open a new account with the $25,000 dollar check, and cash the $20,000 one with the $25,000 as collateral? Can I go to a branch of the bank the check is drawn on and cash it? If not, which bank will clear it the fastest? Can I go to a non-bank to cash it, like a check cashing store? I was approved for an apartment recently, out of the area, and with the time it takes to clear checks of this size, and my move in date, I forsee the possiblity of problems arising. I also have to buy a car to drive to my new place. Thank you for any answers.
