I'm claiming for accidental damage to my carpet (UK), the insurance company have accepted the claim and will send their carpet fitters to replace the carpet after i have paid the excess.
The problem is that they (the fitters) say i am required to uplift the old carpet myself, they will be using the old underlay and grippers, Is this correct? they are the fitters, why do i have to uplift the carpet? what if i damage the rented property or the underlay and grippers? i have no idea on how to uplift a carpet, i don't have their tools either, do i have to? they say there is a extra charge that i will have to pay out my own pocket if i want them to uplift the carpet. Obviously i understand i am required to move all the furniture out the room then take the old carpet to the dump afterwards but as for uplifting the carpet?
It feels like i'm being conned, i mean.. if you take your car to the garage for an MOT would you expect the mechanics to ask you to help them? no you wouldn't! lol
Any advice ?
Additional Details Insurance Pickle.com I asked the insurance company and they told me that as soon as i paid the excess then they'd get the carpet company to call me and explain how to uplift my carpet. So the insurance company also think i have to do it. Also how do i lift the metal bar/strip that fixes the carpet the the floor under the door? there are no screws or anything holding it down, i've already tried to use a flat ended screw driver and pry it up but it will not move at all, it just bends the strip/bar Yahoo police if i don't remove the door bars then how do i remove the carpet! its over the carpet so it has to be removed.
