I attempted to cash my check at a supermarket, and they wrote on it but the check was odd, when taking ....?

It to a bank they told me since their was writing on the front of my check, that they were unable to cash it....the front of my check has written on it my license number and my phone number...I was told this after a confrontation with one of the cashiers who laughed at me after hearing me speak (I'm a flamboyant young gay man)....The bank was Wells Fargo and this was in New Jersey....



So is this okay...can a check really not be cashed due to writing on the front of a check?
