I want to alter a shoe and re-sell it, what are the legal boundaries?

I want to buy a pair of branded shoes, say nike air force 1 for arguments sake. I want to do some things to it and then re-sell it. On a business-type level -personal too if there are any ramifications- what laws/rules/regulations are there!? Thanks, and what can I do about them, if there is. Thanks!
