Thin file means you don't have very many accounts and/or they are relatively new. You expand your credit history with more loans and credit cards. You make on time payment -- you nee at least 2 years of on time payment history to improve your score.
You may want to rethink credit cards. Go to your bank, get a card. use it for regular purchases like gas or groceries and pay the statement balance in full every month. That builds credit and avoids interest. You have to actually use the credit cards on a regular basis to build credit, but you don't have to charge large amounts or carry balances.
