social security disability only applies if you hve become severely disabled and can't work before reaching retirement age. note that the inability to work doesn't mean the inability to handle your current job, it means the inability to perofrm any jobm thus, if a surgeon could no longer operate, he wouldn't qualify for social security disbaility if he could still do office work. also, remember that sovcial security disability is only basd on what your monthly sociao security benefit would have been. it has nothing to do with your current salary.
