Can you be dismissed from a job due to illness?

Ive been diagnosed with ME and I ended up some days being bed bound. Sometimes I cant do anything because I have flare ups. Is there anything to protect my job? ?

Ok so im not ill enough to claim any benefits, not that I want to!, but I can be sacked . How the hell am I suppose to survive financially. Reducing my hours ive done but that doesn't help me when im bed bound
