Can you get fired after boss sends you home?

i had a back injury at work they wouldnt let me see there doctor and then i was declined comp after filing papers but any ways i was put on light duty went to work my full shift then i got a call saying not to return to work until i was released to full duty when i was released i worked up to an hour of my shift end then they sent me home saying not to return til i got a phone call in 2 days 3 days went by and then they fired me for unexcused absents can they do that?

it wasnt my boss that fired me it was the higher up and i didnt call every day i did keep in contact with my boss when i things changed or whatever told them when i would be going back to doctor and what the doctor was saying to keep them informed my boss said i wouldnt get any points for missing work and then the higher up said that he was wrong and shouldnt of told me that did file for unemployment
