Loan Payment by Family of Borrower extend time deadline?

I loaned some money to a "friend" who stopped paying me for over a year. I got his mom to make a payment (which she wrote specifically on the check that it was made on behalf on her son). Just wondering since I got her to make a payment on behalf of her son does this extend the time limitation (I've heard legally it is 2 year after last payment) I have to go to court to try and get the money back? Thank you.
