My roommate and I split half and half on bills.
To make a long story short.. Last month she tried to tell me she wasn't gonna pay rent and move out because "she is never there anyway"
I started freaking out, because I cant afford this 750$ apartment on my own.
But, thankfully we are BOTH on the rent, and if she wanted to leave or break lease.. we would BOTH have to sign.. but I refuse to sign anything :)
We made an agreement to move in together so she needs to stick with it.
Or she could go ahead and pay the 3,468$ to break the lease!
Anyway, So I sent her a screen shot of the electric bill for this month (50$).. Its in my name so I just send it to her and she gives me half of it in cash from the tips she makes at work.
But guess what... she refusing to pay me ANYTHING NOW!
WHAT DO I DO?!
I feel like I cant do anything because the electric bill in in MY name so it is all on me!
So what I did was I turned her breaker switch off that controls her lights and outlets in her half of the apartment. And then I Changed the door knob to a locking door knob to the laundry room where the breaker was... so she couldn't turn it back on.
But this bit** goes to the office and they say I cant "damage or alter the apartment in any way"...
Now I have to put the door knob back and she is able to use the electric!
What do I do?!!!!
I am thinking about getting the electric temporarily turned off but that will effect my living as well. I don't want to be punished because she is not responsible and wont pay!
