So I'm starting a small business. Primarily I flip laptops on craigslist, I haven't gotten my business license yet but I plan on getting one once I know the business model works, but I'm kind of worried about sales tax.
A lot of the computers a resell do not turn over an 8 percent gain, and sales tax in California is over 8-9 percent.
If I started to keep track of sales tax on every sale, I would actually end up at a loss in a lot of sales.
Do I have to have over an 8 percent gain per sale, or is there some tax return at the end of the year that would help in this situation to turn those losses into small profits?
Is there a way to operate a business without an 8 percent gain?
