When do you pay APR on a credit card?

I just signed up for my first credit card. The Annual Percentage Rate is 22.9% (which is high, but its my first one). I'm just a little confused on how it works. I plan on only using my card once a or twice a month and paying it off at the end of every month. Will I still pay interest on it if I do that?
