Stock Market and Brokerage account?

I have a Visa card, but i am trying to set up a Brokerage account to trade stocks and invest in stocks, Do i have to go to my bank to get my account changed to brokerage account? Or this is just something i can do online and i am ON ?

Please advise , I am new to this, I want to know what this Brokerage account is
