Can someone explain cheques to me like I'm a idiot?

Right my school gave me a cheque from HSBC and I don't have a bank account. Is it possible for me to go to HSBC with my mum and ask could they put the cheque into her account? I have looked that up and some people said yes and some said no, which is it? Also people say you have to 'endorse' it. What does that mean? How do I do it? I looked it up on and on a picture I saw there was lines on the back on the cheque to write on, however on mine there was no lines.


Could someone explain what I have to do if I go to the bank? What documents will I need? What will I actually write?
