I suffered from depression when I was college and dropped out the first year, I was an engineering major. In the 7 years after, I partied, played poker, and tried entrepreneurship. I had many failures but recently designed a new device and is selling pretty well. I think I can make $100k this year.
However, I realized my immaturity and wants to finish my education and get a "real" job in the future, while running my business at the side. I got back in my original college (U of Illinois) and for the past two years have been getting close to a 4.0 GPA. I'm actually a very smart guy but I just slacked off in the past. I hate myself for that mistake. But now I'm nearing 30 and I just graduating from college while the rest of my high school buddies have gotten masters degrees or have been working at top level jobs for years. I feel so left behind.
I don't want to work as an engineer (especially as a newly grad) for a long time. I want to eventually get an advanced degree as well, to vindicate myself. I'm thinking about getting a MBA at a top school. However, I have poor freshman GPA, and a long gap in my college attendance, will my last 3 years worth of good grade make up for it?
I also lack work experience, aside from my business. If I run my business well and expand it, can that count as work experience for MBA admissions? Or should I work as an engineer for a couple of years first?
What kind of job can I expect once I'm done with the MBA?
thanks
