I am in Culinary school. I was in class last week and I was feeling very ill. A class mate asked me what was wrong- I told them that I may have a staph infection by my arm pit. I went to the doctor the next day and she said that it was not staph, but was a rare, non contagious skin condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa. When I came into work today- I received a phone call from the president of my company saying that the dean of the Culinary school called him and told him that I had a staph infection and I was going to be restricted from going to class and needed to be restricted from work. The president told me that I could not return to work with out a doctors release and that I should have told him about this sooner. I called my doctor and she wanted to know why they even needed a release, because I was never under her care. She said that I was under no obligation to tell them my medical condition, because that violates my privacy. She faxed in a medical release. I have shown this to my employer and I also have to give one to my teacher to be allowed to return to class. All of this was caused by a student- whom I thought was concerned about me- running to the dean and saying that I have staph infection. I am extremely hurt by this- it's bad enough that I just got diagnosed with a rare chronic skin condition, but being forced to tell everyone about it makes it even worse. I feel like I shouldn't have been restricted from work and school when I don't even have an illness that you should be restricted for. I am extremely hurt by this. I just want to finish my last few weeks of school and be done and as far as work- I think it's time to find a new job. This situation seems very morally gray to me- is all of this even legal?
Additional Details Hey Forever- You can kiss my ***. Apparently you don't know very much about laws- so I don't even know why the hell you are one here. It's stupid people like you- that make me not even want to post on here anymore. According to the CDC- you can still handle food- even with an infection, as long as its covered. You must not have read my post, because you were too concerned with what stupidly you were going to type. Yes I told a student that I might have an infection- the doctor confirmed I didn't- So how is it legal for the dean of the school to have me restricted from work and school- based on what someone said.
Im so hurt. Is this even legal?
