What to do after fraudulent charges?

  • secured credit card online
  • how can i pay online without a credit card
  • accounting diploma online
  • accounting degree online accredited
  • online email marketing
  • network address translation
I woke up this morning and found my checking account had 5 fraudulent charges to SOMEWAY MEDIA LLC. Totaling 8 thousand dollars. One charge to 'freshpair shoes' and one to 'red cross'. I caught the charges within 5 hours. I check the balance every 12 hours because I consider it a high-risk for fraud account.

I always keep less than $100 in the account because it's the one I always use online (to protect myself from this very situation) so I'm not really freaking out. Plus bank of america is going to take them off my statement.

Here's what I've done so far:

- Called my bank and identified the fraud charges

- Had the bank reissue me a new check card

- Changed the password on the email account that I use for online purchases.

- Asked the bank to investigate charges

The criminals obviously knew the email account I mainly use with the check card since they signed up for 'freshpair' (an online shoe company) along with my name / billing address. That's why I changed the password. There's not much I can do about my name or address.

Is there anything else that I should do to protect myself?

  • It's worth noting that I have to use a check card online because my credit is so bad that the max limit on my credit cards is $100
