Why do stocks go down near closing time?

• online stock market
• purchase price of stock
• mortgage closing costs

I saw near the end of the day today many stocks price go down a lot (compared with rest of day prices). Why is that? Is there a reason? I am super new to stock market and am on the simulator now at investopedia.
