A possible minor legal case from cancelling a transaction on eBay...?

My friend had an item for auction on eBay a few days ago. The person the bidded on it in the last few minutes won it for 0.99. She cancelled the transaction because she was not happy with the selling price. She contacted the buyer and told her that she was re-listing her item for sale and asked if it was ok for her to do so. The automated email was sent stating that the buyer agreed to cancel the transaction. But then later on she got a message from the buyer saying she had cancelled a legal transaction and was going to contact her legal representative. We are trying to find what she should do to avoid a legal battle over something that didn't sell for hardly anything. The buyer had not paid for the item and she thought it was ok to cancel the transaction. Technically my friend still owns the item and the buyer has not physically paid for it so does that mean that my friend can choose not to sell it to the buyer? (We have sent an email to eBay stating our case).
