pc board design
I am into 3D modelling and I was wondering if it's in anyway illegal to take someone's model (that they've made) and then completely change it, so it looked nothing like the original except for the placement of a few vertices that I haven't moved their location. So would it still be illegal for me to use it commercially?

Additional Details Let me give you an example of what I did:
I began with a sniper rifle and turned it into an assault rifle (the whole design actually changed too, I didn't just shorten the barrel and almost all vertices were moved around).
On another I began with a tank and turned it into a spaceship (and in this one not a single vertices is in it's original position and the design again completely different).
Basically you could place both images side by side and not even realize they were once the same, that's how different they are. Let me give you an example of what I did:
