Okay so I am debating a few pertinent question regarding index funds.
1. Vanguard vs Fidelity?
2. What option sounds better for future funding? (P.S. I wouldnt invest in all at once)
Option 1: Total Stock Market Index Fund
Total Stock Market International Index Fund
Total Bond Index Fund
REIT Index Fund
Option 2: S&P 500 Index Fund
Small Cap Index Fund
Total Stock Market International Index Fund
Total Bond Index Fund
REIT Index Fund
**My main question I guess is this, is it smarter/more profitable to purchase an overall total stock market index which covers a little bit of everything from large cap, mid cap, and small cap companies...OR...purchase the S&P 500 index fund which covers mainly large cap and a little mid cap companies then purchase a Small Cap index fund to cover a ton more small cap companies???**
I do not want to overlap. I feel like purchasing the Total Stock Market Index Fund and the Small Cap Index Fund would lead to a lot of overlap...correct me if I am wrong.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...I am very new to the investment world.
A little about me:
20 years old
$23,000 to my name
No 401k - company offers but no match - debating on whether to contribute or open a Roth IRA
No debt at all
