My coworker is trying to get health insurance to cover herself and her husband. The management of my company told us that, to do this, they needed to file a group policy that any other employees could decline if they didn't want the coverage. I am still covered under my dad's insurance, and so I don't need this insurance, so I declined coverage. But then the insurance company told the management that I had to provide proof of insurance, in the form of my dad's insurance card. My dad asked for legal proof that I was required to submit his private information to this company so they could cover this coworker and her husband. Is it legal for this insurance company to demand proof of my insurance, and if so, can you give me the statute that says so?
  • Additional Details
  • I reside in Nevada, so if there's not a national law that states that insurance companies are allowed to require the private policy information, is there state legislation that says so?
  • I would like the precise statute that grants the insurance company access to the private policy information. I am getting conflicting answers not only here but from the management and the supposed communication of the management with the insurance company about the legality of it, as well as a mix of other people I have spoken to about this. This information was originally requested two weeks ago, at which point I promptly asked for the legal proof, which I have not yet received. So the precise statute or law is what I'm looking for.
