Questions about the CPA exam/license?

Is it worth the effort to get a CPA license if I want to work at private firms? Would it give me a competitive edge over other job applicants?


Also, is it useless to pass the exams if I don't get the license? Asking this because the California Board recently added new educational requirements to get the license, so I'm wondering if all this is necessary.
