Can I continue to pay into my deferred compensation plan?

I have a deferred compensation plan in addition to my police & fire pension. I will be 47 when I retire and start to collect my pension. Can I continue to pay into my deferred compensation plan until I'm 55? Or would I not be allowed to further fund my plan because I would no longer be a government employee?
