housing is the biggest cost in most families. Many have car payments (insurance, petrol, and repairs, etc - like parking). Some have major medical bills (in the USA - even after Obamacare - which is a bad version of socialized medicine). College tuition is a major expense for students in that group.


After that, it is personal choice on what a consumer buys that breaks the bank.
