My grandfather recently died, I need to get into his bank accounts to take care of death related things - he's been in the ground 2 months, and we cant afford a headstone - there is a couple grand tied up in checking accounts.
He is a widower.
My name is on the death certificate as the "informant"/next of kin. I also have a signed will naming me as the executor.
My question - Do I still have to take the will to probate court and be named as an administrator, or will financial institutions accept a DC and original signed will?
I live out of town, and Im wondering how time consuming it will be for me to get the bank accounts?
Thank you
