Do u recommend hiring an independent contractor to assess contents and structural damage after a house fire?

  • insurance company
  • best insurance company
  • work insurance
  • seo link building
  • graduate structural engineer
What's the goal of that? What's the point? Are you trying to get the insurance company to total your house?

The vast majority of the time, it's not necessary to do that; but in any case, you'll want to check with your insurance policy FIRST. Unless you have "building ordinance or law" endorsement on your policy - which is an OPTION, not built in - the insurance policy doesn't cover any UNDAMAGED part of the structure if there's a law in your area that says, "if the building is more than 50% damaged you must demolish it".

It's not like car insurance . . . so without knowing what the POINT of that engineer is, it's impossible to make a recommendation either way.

Keep in mind, your local fire department in combination with the building inspector can make safety and structural recommendations.
