Is having bad credit the end of the world?

I mean really bad credit. Currently I still have outstanding debts from 3 years ago. I am just getting back on my feet right now after 3 financially tough years but having bad credit is killing me right now. I can't even get a phone plan without a credit check which is keeping me from am getting a job, a job that will help me service my debts in the 1st place. It's like a vicious cycle.

Is having bad credit the end of the world?
