New Contract of Employment - Forced to Sign?

My employer wants me to sign a new contract of employment - it's to make all staff do an out of hours callout rota. The rota is voluntary at the moment but there aren't enough people coming forward, so they want to make us all commit to it. The employer has said that anyone who does not sign the new contract has volunteered to leave. Surely that can't be right or legal?

Any help appreciated
  • Additional Details
  • Further Details - the current contracts are all above board. Many staff have been there for years, and most people are happy and well paid. There's no suggestion of impropriety at all - it's just this volunteered to leave thing
